—-the 7 Million Jigawatts backstory—-

7MJ, established in 2003, by founding members, Melissa Behring & Jake Tobias, this hard working couple has been seen performing as far away as St. Petersburg, Russia and as close by as the backyard beer garden at the Royal Oak Brewery in Royal Oak, Michigan. For the past seven years, 7 Million Jigawatts has been a musical power house representing Detroit on the International Music Scene.

Established in 2003 7 Million Jigawatts performs classic songs from rock and soul artists like Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Heart, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Journey, and more.

Members, Jake Tobias & Melissa Behring spent over 6 years performing on ships around the globe for Princess Cruises. They just left the Regal Princess, named USA Today’s Best Cruise Ship for Entertainment at the end of 2016.

Music has enriched their lives and taken them around the world and back home to Detroit. Let’s share stories of travel, songs that inspire you and music that spans multiple generations together.

Jake & Melissa have been fortunate to have performed with some world class players throughout their careers. If you’re from Detroit, you may recognize a few of the players in the early photos like Nathan Montgomery, Clint Sabon, Jon Vidal, Mike Concepcion and Brandon Stultz. If you’re from outside the D, look deeply into the golden sparkle of Princess Cruises and there you’ll find some other folks you know and love like Al Boudreau, Neil Jones, Mike Twigg, Bill Barkley, Matt Guza and others.

7 Million Jigawatts unique style of rock and soul infusion keeps dance floors and feet moving. Known internationally for performing hit songs audiences know and love along side their own original music, they are a treat for the senses. Their unique style of music and the talent of this band caught the attention of Ford Motor Company back in 2009. Their song, “I’ve Got You Covered,” was featured on the interior 360 camera view of the 2010 Mustang online.

7MJ is also very involved in the international and local community. Every year, they take time out of their busy schedules to help raise awareness and money for breast cancer and volunteer to help create awareness for fresh water conservation in and around the Great Lakes. In 2011, they were chosen to kick off the Hard Rock Café’s Pinktober Breast Cancer Awareness Month national campaign in Detroit.
